So I am reading a book that I would not normally have picked up, but came across it on someone's coffee table. As a matter of fact, they wouldn't normally have picked it up either, but a friend passed it on from a friend while they were convalescing. The dust jacket looked interesting, so I got a copy at the library. I am ripping through it, even though it may not be the most well written book I have ever read and even though the plots and even the people are generally predictable. I am talking of Winter Garden, by Kristin Hannah, and I am enjoying it so much because one of the characters (or maybe two) has very similar foibles to my own (or at least some of mine) and I am watching her scrape dangerously close to disaster and biting my nails, hoping to learn something from this book before it is too late. I also like the fairy tale part of it, but that wore off early in the novel and there is no more. :( I also happen to be reading Harry Potter voraciously, which I never thought would happen, and enjoying the escapism. Not half-bad, those books, and much better than the movies.

As you can see, I still have much to accomplish while running our normal lives and babysitting Baby all day tomorrow. Although "Clean up the house real nice" was the biggest chore, and that is very nearly done, but I had to wrap up the vacuum in order to tuck the kids in bed. Off to shred chicken for tomorrow's dinner pasta.
Why is Devon writing The Green Notebook?
Two reasons. Mostly. I have a blog--The Yellow Notebook--but have noticed that blogs with specific goals seem to shine. So I decided that I would blog about the next two-and-a-half years as we work REALLY hard at squeezing my husband through nursing school while randomly making money, consistently saving ourselves money, raising small children, writing a novel, dealing with the current economy, trusting God and deepening our friendships, et al. Watch the balancing act! Also, my friends have been complaining that blogs tend to be, well... life edited. So I am going to try NOT to edit out the things that make us a real family with real financial and other struggles. And in this ring...
By the way, I have not named my children "Boy" and "Girl." I just like to refer to them that way on the blog. I also refer to my nephew as "Baby."
And here is my tagline:
What economy? Or Diary of a Young, Urbanite, Apolitical, Lower-Income, Middle-Class, Writer, Foodie, Artist, Stay-at-Home Mom.
*If you want to know our story and the protracted story of this blog, see the entry from January 17, 2010, titled appropriately "Our Story."
